Jeff King is the first team into Ruby, and wins the award
for First Team to the Yukon River. He was followed an hour later by Sonny
Lindner. However, both teams have yet to take their mandatory 24-hour rest, and
it is assumed they will take it there.
Martin Buser is on his way out of Cripple, and having
already taken his 24, he is at this point the true race “leader”.
Kelly Maixner and 2-time champion Norwegian Robert Sorlie
are both in Cripple, and have also taken their 24s, so they are in a good position.
Of course, travelling down the Yukon is always interesting,
and a place that teams often make their move. Once they reach the coast,
anything can (and often does!) happen to change the race dynamic. There is a
LOT of action still to come!
Now that the trail has more snow, there will hopefully be
less teams scratching, at least due to damaged sleds and damaged mushers.
Kathleen Keith appears to be the leading Rookie, ahead of Nathan
Schroeder and Abbie West.
